Lisa Thompson

I am 33 years old and am married to the love of my life.  We have 2 daughters, ages 14 and 11.  I really desire to make changes that will impact my family in a positive way.  When I’m not spending time with my family, running them to their activities, or hanging out at our church, you can find me blogging at www.simplifiedsaving.com.  I also love to shop, sing, and spend time outside when it’s warm and sunny.

Today is weigh in day and I’m feeling quite nervous. I’m not sure why I feel this way each Monday. I’ve eaten well, exercised, and done what I need to be doing, but for some reason, the thought of stepping on the scale still makes me nervous. Last week, I lost 5.2 which put my total over 20 pounds for the contest. I had already lost 15 which means I’ve lost over 35 this year! I’m definitely heading in the right direction!

I am so grateful for the support and encouragement of everybody involved in FWSW. It’s amazing how much has changed in the last 7 weeks! Looking forward to seeing what the next 7 weeks will hold!

This past week has been the hardest week of the program for me. My lupus has been giving me fits for a few weeks and I was so sick on Tuesday that I could raise my hands above my head to wash my hair. Needless to say, it makes it hard to workout when you can’t get out of bed. My doctor decided to put me back on steroids in hopes of getting the lupus back under control. Unfortunately for me, every time I’ve been on steroids I’ve gained a ridiculous amount of weight. The least I’ve ever gained in the first week while on this dosage is 10 pounds…. Yep, that’s 10 pounds gained in one week and that’s the least I’ve ever gained! So, with that in mind, I called Tracy last week and asked for suggestions. She was so helpful and I really appreciated her advice. I’ve been working out extra hard, tracking every last morsel of food and trying to do everything I can that will help!

Although I’m feeling quite puffy (one of the side effects of the steroids), I’m also feeling very proud of myself for making the choices I’ve made this week!

I worked out hard, snuck a few extra workouts in, did the 13.1 mile prayer walk on Saturday ( as well as an extra mile) and got a good workout in yesterday!

Hopefully the scale will be kind to me! :-)

Although I didn’t lose much this week (only .8 pounds), this has been the week where I feel I have been most victorious. I will continue to make good choices and hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m off the steroids and losing at the rate I want. I am determined to reach the goals that Rick and Tina have set for us as well as the goals I’ve set for myself. In order to be where I want to be, I need to lose at least 6 pounds this week.

Lisa, I too enjoy seeing you in church….you sing so beautifully….what a gift God has given you and I am so happy you share it with us at Lakewood Park Baptist Church :) You are incredible….i am so proud of you for completing the 13.1 at the Prayer Walk….keep up the great work

Since I’ve been told often enough that the difference between hope and despair is often a good night’s sleep, I think I will head to bed. I’m feeling quite discouraged tonight. I stepped on the scale tonight expecting a really big loss and I gained. I know I’m still on steroids, but I have given 110% this week and I feel like I should have had huge results. I’ll be heading to Spiece more frequently this week in hopes that it will help. I trust Tina and if she says more time at Spiece will help, then I will be there more frequently. On a positive note, my run times are getting faster. My last run I was averaging 10 minute miles (which is huge for me!).

You were so funny tonight! I thought I was going to pee my pants…lol. Not really, but you really made me laugh tonight!

  21. kstarkey1959 says:

    Lisa,
It was so great to see that side of you. I was laughing so hard my belly was shaking.(
I think that should count as exercise) opps what did i do? Keep up the great work….you are looking so great!!!!

    Lisa,
Let me just start by saying I love you and your spirit. You are such a positive person and that is so wonderful to be around. I love working out with you. You really keep me focused. We can do this! Wait, we ARE doing this. I’ll work out with you anytime.

Don’t get too discouraged about your weight gain this week. You are on Steroids. Everybody knows that steroids make you gain weight. Just keep your head up and the weight will come off. The last 3 weeks haven’t been a waste. You are much stronger! Don’t sell yourself short.
    Stay strong.
    Holly

Lisa, you are doing great! I enjoyed talking with you about your daughters. I hope you remember to bring in a picture of them soon! Keep working hard and remember: even if you struggle with what the scale is telling you, you ARE stronger!! 10 minute miles….WOW!! Keep it up!

  25. Ashley says:

I am still waiting on that picture…lol! Keep up your hard work!

  26. cicicase says:

Love to hear you speak in the mornings at prayer time. You voice is calming and helps me get my head back on straight before I leave the gym to face the day! Thank you for that!

Last night was the weigh-in I’ve been waiting for! I lost 6.8 pounds for a total of 30 pounds since FWSW began! I want to lose at least 15 more pounds before the finale (I’d prefer 20 -25)! With the incredible people I’m surrounded by, I know I can do this!

Thought for the day: “Progress always involves risk; you can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.” Frederick B. Wilcox

So glad I took the risk and turned in a FWSW application in January! I can’t even imagine how different things would be now if I hadn’t! I love the progress that I’m making!

  32. Elle says:

I’m so happy that you turned in that application too! You are an amazing person that I am so proud to have as my new friend. You obviously have a great heart and a go getter spirit that makes you a definite challenger in this competition. You are so much better now for yourself and your family, you are worth the time it takes to get yourself to a healthier you!

  33. Lisa says:

Last night was my best weigh-in yet! I lost 7.6 pounds for a total of 37.6 pounds since the beginning of the contest and 52 pounds lost since January 1st. I’ve been making every effort to make the most of the tools provided to us and it’s definitely working! I am so proud of myself and the changes I’m making!

  34. kchaney13 says:

Lisa, You are doing great and you look great too!! Congratulations on the 7.6lb weight loss on Monday. See you bowling tonight!!

This past week has been an incredibly stressful week! On Tuesday afternoon, I had injections in my neck. By the time I got home Tuesday night, all I wanted to do was sleep. Unfortunately my hubby informed me that one of the kids had accidentally left the door of our upright freezer open and everything had started to thaw. I had over 40 pounds of meat that I had to cook so that it wouldn’t go bad and so that I could put it back in the freezer. I spent Tuesday night and most of the day Wednesday cooking. On Wednesday night, it seemed like things were calming down at our house…until I checked the National Weather Service and saw that we had all kinds of storm warnings. Our house has the kind of basement you don’t want to be in for an extended period of time, so we woke up the kids, got them out of bed and headed to my mom & dad’s basement. It was soooo nasty out! We waited out the storm in their basement and then headed back home once it seemed like the storm had past. When we got home, we found that one of our 100+ year old trees hadn’t made it through the storm. A huge part of it had fallen and totally blocked our street. If we hadn’t gone to my parents it would have crushed our Suburban. Slightly after midnight, the city showed up with a bunch of construction equipment to move the tree out of the street. Needless to say we were up most of the night. Unfortunately during the course of all the chaos, my phone charger disconnected and by the time the morning came around, my phone was dead…which meant that I overslept and missed my workout. This is the first time this has ever happened and I was so upset and frustrated.

By the time Friday rolled around, I was ready for some good rest! Unfortunately, I found out Friday night that my coworker and friend had found her husband dead in bed earlier that evening. It was completely unexpected. My heart totally breaks for her and the pain she is going through. I can’t even imagine! I didn’t sleep as well as I would have liked on Friday night either.

In the midst of all the stress, I’m proud of myself for not turning to food the way I normally would have. I have continued to make good choices when it comes to eating and have been diligent in working out!

On a more positive note, I did an 8 mile jog this weekend. I jogged really slowly, but I jogged! I won’t get to see what I weight until the finale so I’m a little nervous, but I know I’m making the right choices and that scale will continue to show it!

I can’t believe that this morning was our last workout with Amber. Amber has been amazing. I remember the first week of the program like it was yesterday. I woke up on Wednesday morning feeling awful and I told my husband and I could barely move. Then I perked up because I realized we didn’t have to train with Tom and Becky. I told him that Wednesday was “just a group exercise class”. I thought it wouldn’t be too hard and boy was I wrong. Amber totally killed us that 1st week and she’s continued to find new ways to kick our butts each week! I am so thankful for her investment into the program! Although I’m sad that FWSW is coming to an end, I’m totally looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday night and hearing the final numbers! I’ve been impressed, amazed, and encouraged by the progress of all the incredible people around me. I’m also thrilled with the progress and changes I’ve made!!!!
