Season 4 Alumni

Fort Wayne Smallest Winner has changed me in ways I can’t even explain since my participation in Season 4. Here it is 6 years later and yet the support is absolutely amazing. Even through life’s ups-and-downs, my mindset is still of a different, healthier me.  I love to spend time at the Lake with my family and friends, time with my children, & time working on myself. I have extremely missed running and look forward to that aspect from the program. Nothing beat the experience of running the Chicago Marathon in 2013.

I graduated from Indiana University in 1994 with a BS degree and a Master’s degree in 1999. I enjoy my career in Supply Chain Management at Dolco Packaging. I have plants in Decatur, IN; Somerville, NJ; Dallas, TX; Lawrenceville, Ga; & Wenatchee, WA.

06-20-17:  Dinner last night was excellent!  What a great restaurant Eddie Merlot's is!!!

As far as this week's weigh in....ugh!!  Topped off a horrible Saturday run (or lack there of) with a horrible weigh in....  Trying to get my sodium balanced and in check.  I did speak to Amanda last night and went to see my doctor on Monday.  Everything checks out great (BP, Heart rate, etc); however, I cut too much sodium out of my diet along with did not drink near enough water....  After speaking with Amanda, I will be taking some Gatorade/PowerAde the night prior along with the morning of my longer runs......

06-19-17:  It's a new week!  Started my week off by completing my second challenge...improved my time from 50:08 minutes to 48:54.  That felt good right out of the gate....

Jeanna weighed in this morning as normal.  She lost another 6.2 lbs for a total of 50.2 lbs lost since week 1...Proud of her doing this side-by-side with us.

06-17-17:  What a horrible Saturday!!!  I was looking forward to the 10 miles and did not get enough sodium or drink enough water to prepare....  My body/mind did not work with that combination.  I rehydrated all day Saturday and got lots of rest.  Horrible and defeated feeling.....

06-08-17:  The Germanfest 5K is in the history books!!!  It was perfect weather and was a great run.  I was pretty excited to finish under 36 minutes.  I improved my time from the Formula for Life 5K on April 22nd by 10.82 minutes...(15.01 avg min/mile compared to 11.31 avg min/mile)...I can live with that improvement!!!

It also felt great that I went over my $250 charity goal on 6-7-17 as well!!!!  It was a great day all around....

06-07-17:  Thank you Katelyn for your blog comments....  To put numbers to having a support system, Jeanna and I have lost as of Monday a total of 94.8 lbs as a couple!!!

I have been really looking at before and after pictures lately.  It is amazing to me the differences just 10 weeks ago versus now....  LOVE the progress.  Started out wearing size 54.  Fitting in very comfortably 46......  Soon to be 44....  Went from 4XL shirts to 2XL now....  Soon to be XL.....

05-31-17:  I completed 1/2 of our challenge yesterday (5-30).  We (Chuck, Aaron, & I) did our 20 just shy of 25 minutes.  It happened to also be Sled Day for "Extra Love".....Needless to say, after completing approx. 36 sleds before our "workout" even started was a welcomed challenge....  It was the sorest I have been since Week 1....the only difference being is that it is now Wed morning and my recovery time is much less from the day prior........

On another note, I want to just communicate again the great importance of making this a life change versus something else......  My girlfriend Jeanna is still doing this with us....She comes to the gym and works out on her own.  We totally try and get some workouts together and she comes to the group runs; however, in general she burns most of her calories on her own as she is motivated by all of us......  We still cook and shop together every single week and just are making this part of our lives......  I am so proud of her and her weekly update:  Lost 5 lbs last week; 41.4 pounds total.......  It makes it fun for me that we can share this and keep each other moving forward positively....

05-18-17:  Signed up for the Vision Walk.  Two friends that have been following me on Facebook donated.  I am already at $75!!!!!

I completed the first 1/2 of the Stairmaster Challenge this morning at 5 AM SHARP!!  I did not even touch the side bars once...  I can do better next time.

Pool workout was awesome this morning!!!!  Shout out to Mari!!!

05-16-17:  I was so upset with only a 1.8 lb loss that I didn't really celebrate being under 300 lbs.....  I have come to realize, just like Rick states.  One week does not define us.  I have averaged almost 5 lbs per week over the last 3 weeks so........

I will keep pushing hard and I know it will pay off.  Weight loss is not a sprint.  Life changes are a marathon......

05-11-17:  Another 6.6 lbs gone!!!!  It Felt really great to see my hard work on both physical fitness and nutrition pay off on the scale!!!  That feeling I had 4-5 years ago is really coming back in my head......It is almost an addiction to want to work out.  It is on my mind all of the time so it seems....  I really notice the difference in that my thought patterns are moving from wanting to schedule my workouts around my busy schedule TO working my schedule around my workouts.......

Again, this may sound like a broken record; however, I really see the power of doing this together.  I see how happy and "in sync" Rick and Tina are and then put it into perspective for myself.....  My girlfriend Jeanna lost another 3.6 lbs and is down a total of 27.4 lbs (and is already excited to hit over that 30 lb mark).  She started the exact same day as us and is doing this "virtually" with us.  She is at Spiece during our workouts completing her workouts.  She comes in early with me to do the double workout thing....  She is amazing and this has brought a whole new fun to me that helps keep myself motivated..........

05-03-17:  "Highs and Lows!!"  It felt great to have a good weigh in on Monday as compared to a week prior.  Lost 7.4 lbs.  Total of 28.8 lbs.  I was very pleased.  A BIG shout out to Amanda Langan for taking the time to review my food journal.  She gave me GREAT direction and it showed on the scale for sure!!!

Today's workout was pretty awesome.  CeCe definitely used my ancient age of 46 to direct the group.....46 squats, 46 high kicks, 46 jumping jacks, (4) 46 second wall sits......oh yeah, that was on top of the already intense group workout......and after some great Extra "Love" from Rick......

I am really noticing a difference in the way my clothes are fitting.  They are becoming more loose and it feels great.....

05-01-17:  Didn't blog since last Monday.  Was pretty upset with a  1.4 lb loss.  I felt like I was much more on-track.

I did meet with Amanda Langan on my food journal.  My first reaction was that my calories were set too high (I had approx. 400 less calories per day in my original season 5....).  She told me that I do not have to lower my calorie intake.  I need to work on portion control and balance.  While I was eating the "right" things, it was a matter of how much and at what time.  It was VERY helpful and I really appreciated her input.....  I definitely changed it up since meeting with her on Wed.  I am hopeful for a better week.  We shall see tonight.......

It was a great run on Saturday.  I am getting physically stronger; however, mentally I am really starting to get on track again with running.  I believe that is almost more important than the physical part.  Being able to do it is one thing.  KNOWING or THINKING you can do it is totally different and is a very big metal challenge......I remember all of these emotions and thoughts when I trained and ran the Chicago Marathon 4 short years ago.....

04-24-17:  Feeling nervous for weigh in tonight as always.  I put in the work and had good nutrition.  The math says I should be down....We will see......  On a side note.  Very inspiring to witness success and see hard work in action.  My girlfriend Jeanna has been reading EVERYONE's blogs.  We shop together.  She reviews my food journals and I review hers.  She joined Spiece and is working right along side us.  She lost another 5.6 lbs this week and is down a total of 23.8 since we all started.  I am really proud of her and it is so awesome to have strong support during this journey......

04-21-17:  Feeling much more energized today!!!  I finally hit a wall last night and crashed and burned early......Slept deep.....  Extra "Love-Credit" felt great this morning.....The workout was awesomely tough.  Thank you trainers.

04-20-17:  Thank you Rose for you comments!!!!!  Week (3), I am down 20....Jeanna is down 18....  It is so awesome to do this together; she is amazing and supportive.....I am sure you know well working along side of Frank.

Today I feel; well, actually down....mood, energy, everything....woke up late (first day I have not arrived at Spiece at 4:50 AM since day 1; so that is late to me...NO I was not late to our work out)...  Feel pretty darn tired today.....  I have been monitoring my sleep.  Need to work on getting more sleep.  I sleep pretty deep when I am sleeping with all of our workouts; however, am only getting around 4-5 hours average per day.....Maybe that finally caught up to me or something.  (I already have 1300 "good" calories in and am not in the least hungry....have a good balance of protein/carbs/good fat so don't think it is my nutrition today either....Just flat out need some sleep I think........)

I still gave the workout my all this morning swimming and the water-sprints...  I could have done better on the water warm ups so the comments from all of the trainers made a lot of sense today....

04-17-17:  Held strong on Easter without any worries.  My mind is really focused right now because I did not feel any temptations attending my family's Easter dinner (I brought my own nutrition).

I remember during my Season when my mind/body felt like I was finally comprehending my own ability to run the 1/2 marathon.  That feeling came to me during my birthday (May 3) week 6 years ago.  While completing FWSW Group Half Marathon Program Training this morning, I had that feeling again.....I felt like I could do more in my mind which was a great feeling.  I am still sticking to the training guide and not over-doing anything as to prevent any injuries; however, it was a great feeling....  After completing the 40 minutes Run/Walk, Jeanna and I continued to walk for another 20 minutes at Spiece to get our 10,000 steps in....  It was a good morning....

04-14-17:  Wow, What a great week!  I can feel myself getting stronger.....my muscles, my breathing, & my mind!  I have really been utilizing the suggestions from Katelyn & Tina on my nutrition as well.  It is also so great to have a great support system with my girlfriend Jeanna.  She is actually doing as much as she can along side of me.  She has lost 14.4 in her first 2 weeks!!!  I am very happy that she just signed up for the FWSW 10K today!!!!

04-11-17:  I felt really good today.  Completed 3 workouts including our very intense and getting increasingly more intense FWSW workout!!!!  I also feel that the guidance Tina and Katelyn have given me (us) is really sinking in.  I am really concentrating on balance and sodium while keeping it simple during this "boot camp" time!!!

04-05-17:  Great workout today!!!  They are already starting to get more intense and I love it!  The "Fine 9" received our graded food journals back from last week...  Some of my choices totally made sense.....WATCH THE SODIUM even though ingredients and other nutritional elements are in check!!!!  Thank you Tina for the feedback!!!  Balance, Balance, Balance....at every meal......

04-03-17:  10.3 lbs lost; I am somewhat disappointed.  Why is that?  I know I am 6 years older than my last season but still have higher expectations!  Have to think lifetime sustainability versus a week one weigh in amount......

03-31-17:  Well, our mile times can only go up from here!!  Another great day and great workout!  Started it out with a nice ride withMary!....  Ran ......then a finish with CC!  Fun times!  I love it!!!

03-30-17:  What a great week!!!  I am sooooo sore...It is a great sore....  The energy from the Pool was awesome!  Loved the "sprint" competition.....

Also, something I remembered from Season 4.....it is amazing to me to think how one cheeseburger....can be up to 1500 calories and more....plus fries (500), beer/drinks (500) (....and what ever else)....1 meal could have equaled 2,500 not including apps, etc......of which I know I would have eaten.  One day of 1800 calorie healthy life-style, and I am struggling get in the 1800 because I am full!!!

Big Shout-out to Bev and all of the Dietitians!!  It is a refreshing memory knowing just how far good is....Good-To-Great!!!!!!

03-28-17:  it was SO awesome working as a group again!  I am so thankful for all of the trainers and support!!!

03-27-17:  A lot of exciting and motivating memories plus an excellent lesson from Bev!!!  3500=1 lb of fat; 1 G protein=4 calories; 1G carbs=4 calories; 1G fat=9 calories!!!!
